The Invisalign Process
During your first visit to our Wausau, Wisconsin, office, our dentist will conduct a thorough dental exam to review the current state of your oral health and determine the degree of misalignment. These factors will determine your eligibility for Invisalign. If our dentist does not recommend Invisalign for your particular situation, we offer other types of braces that can help you achieve your goal of a straighter, healthier smile.
Once our dentist establishes your eligibility for Invisalign, treatment planning can begin. This typically involves using a 3D scanner to take digital impressions of your teeth. These impresions are then used to show you the different phases of treatment and your potential results and to also create the custom aligners you'll wear for the duration of treatment. Our dentist will provide you with an estimated timeline. Most patients complete Invisalign treatment in 12 months or less, but your timeline may vary based on the degree of misalignment and how well you abide by our dentist's instructions.
When your aligners are ready, you'll return to our office to pick them up. At this time, our dentist will provide you with detailed instructions for how long to wear the aligners each day and how to properly clean them. Following these instructions will ensure you stay on track to complete your treatment within the estimated timeframe. Although the aligners are removable, our dentist generally recommends wearing them at least 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat and drink (besides water) and to brush and floss your teeth. About every two weeks, you'll move on to the next set of aligners in the series.
You'll return to our office every four to six weeks for our dentist to see how your treatment is progressing. If you're making progress, our dentist will supply with you additional sets of aligners so that you can continue to change them every two weeks or so.
Provided you abide by our dentists recommendations, you should achieve a straight and healthy smile within the estimated timeframe, which typically ranges from 9 to 12 months--a fraction of the time treatment takes with metal braces. Although your treatment may be over, our dentist usually recommends patients wear a retainer to ensure long-lasting results. Most retainers closely resemble the Invisalign aligners and are simply worn to bed each night.
If you're interested in improving your smile but want to avoid metal braces, Invisalign may be right for you. Call us at 715-843-9800 to schedule an initial consultation with our dentist at our Wausau, Wisconsin, office.
